How long have I been rhyming?,
It seems, for all my life —
I’ve got to blame my father,
And of course my mum (his wife).
You see, when I was little,
They both said to me:
“Just write what you know about.
Tell people what you see.”
How long have I been rhyming?,
It seems, for all my life —
I’ve got to blame my father,
And of course my mum (his wife).
You see, when I was little,
They both said to me:
“Just write what you know about.
Tell people what you see.”
Maybe you’ll be a pirate,
With tattoos on your chest
Possibly a banker,
With millions to invest.
“It doesn’t matter what you do
What will be, will be.
Just write what you know about.
Tell people what you see."
Radio could be for you,
Chatting to the nation...
Or even a policeman
With a big Alsatian!
So I took them at their word
And headed off with glee:
“Just write what you know about.
Tell people what you see.”
Well, piracy went nowhere —
'Cause tattoos tend to sting —
And banking is so boring,
It’s simply not my thing.
Policing was a no-no,
I’d rather drink some tea.
“Just write what you know about.
Tell people what you see.”
But radio was brilliant —
I found it so exciting!
Which led me to discover
Lovely copywriting.
So it seems Mum and Dad
Knew life’s simple key:
“Just write what you know about.
Tell people what you see.”
